Dynamics of epidemic spreading with vaccination: impact of social pressure and engagement

چکیده
In this work we consider a model of epidemic spreading coupled with an opinion dynamics in a fully-connected population. Regarding the opinion dynamics, the individuals may be in two distinct states, namely in favor or against a vaccination campaign. Individuals against the vaccination follow a standard SIS model, whereas the pro-vaccine individuals can also be in a third compartment, namely Vaccinated. In addition, the opinions change according to the majority-rule dynamics in groups with three individuals. We also consider that the vaccine can give permanent or temporary immunization to the individuals. By means of analytical calculations and computer simulations, we show that the opinion dynamics can drastically affect the disease propagation, and that the engagement of the pro-vaccine individuals can be crucial for stopping the epidemic spreading.

Proposing A stochastic model for spread of corona virus dynamics in Nigeria
The emergence of corona virus (COVID-19) has create a great public concern as the outbreak is still ongoing and government are taking actions such as holiday extension, travel restriction, temporary closure of public work place, borders, schools, quarantine/isolation, social distancing and so on. To mitigate the spread, we proposed and analyzed a stochastic model for the continue spread of coro...

Background The 2013-2016 Ebola virus disease (EVD) epidemic in West Africa was the largest in history and resulted in a huge public health burden and significant social and economic impact in those countries most affected. Its size, duration and geographical spread presents important opportunities for research than might help national and global health and social care systems to better prepare ...
متن کاملImpacts of complex behavioral responses on asymmetric interacting spreading dynamics in multiplex networks
Information diffusion and disease spreading in communication-contact layered network are typically asymmetrically coupled with each other, in which disease spreading can be significantly affected by the way an individual being aware of disease responds to the disease. Many recent studies have demonstrated that human behavioral adoption is a complex and non-Markovian process, where the probabili...
متن کاملThe Sis Model for Assessment of Epidemic Control in a Social Network∗
The phenomenon of epidemic spreading in a population with a hierarchical structure of interpersonal interactions is described and investigated numerically. The SIS model with incubation time and temporal immunity to a disease, is used. In our model location in social structure, effectiveness of different types of interactions and mobility of contemporary communities are taken into account. The ...
